THE NEW PARKLAND HOSPITAL

LuM Lighting Design worked with architects, Corgan in a joint effort with HDR, on this $1.27-billion healthcare facility replacing the existing Parkland Memorial Hospital built in 1954. The New Parkland Hospital is located on a 64-acre healthcare campus in the “Hospital District” and includes a 862-bed acute care replacement hospital. The hospital is a landmark medical campus that will serve the community for decades into the future.

Lighting design concepts responded, not only to architecture, interior design and landscape elements, but also to maintenance and longevity priorities outlined by the client team. For example, interior lighting fixtures were required to be fully recessed to eliminate surfaces on which dust could accumulate - a maintenance and health concern identified during pre-design user-group discussions. Working within the complex budget and design constraints was a challenge that the entire Design Team embraced and winningly achieved.

Working with landscape architects, Studio Outside and Ten Eyck, LuM tailored lighting solutions to the various elements of the landscape design such as the 2-acre Wellness Park at the hospital main entry, axial site sidewalks and landscaped entries.
